Sound, print, and other devises are not working?

I am running Windows XP. About a week ago, my computer was working fine. I simply restarted it, and I noticed it did not play the normal welcome noise it plays when someone logs in. And I noticed my start bar and all my windows have “Windows classic view” instead of the normal blue XP view I have. I thought I could just go to properties and change it back. But the only option “Windows Classic View”!!

Something similar happened to me once before, and my easy solution was that everything simply was unchecked in the “Services” tab in the System Preferences. But I opened up my system preferences to see that everything was checked, but only about a third of the services were running, and the others were stopped! One of the many stopped was “Window’s Audio” which would explain the no start-up jingle.

In my week of trying to figure out why something’s aren’t working, I noticed that print isn’t working.

My first assumption is that I had a virus (my virus protection ended over two years ago). So I took a free download of “Cyber Defender” and if found hundreds of infections and many spy ware items. And I single handedly deleted every single one of them.

After all that trouble, I googled “start stopped services” And one answer was go to: start -> control panel -> Administrative tools -> Services.

I sorted everything in my list by status, only to find about a third of the things were started, and rest just displayed nothing. I do not know much about computers, so everything looked like it was in a different language.

I started my sorting everything by start-up, and got to select something and click start. After I got something I recognized, like Windows Audio, and click start, I figured that would end my sound problem, so I quick went to YouTube, played the first video I saw, and unfortunately, no sound.

When I was proceeding in starting all the manual items, One of my problems I neglected to mention: The Fast user switching, (before it would come up with something like “This computer is locked, and only Ben (my name) can unlock this computer” But anyway, when I clicked start, a warning box came up saying “Could not start Fast User Switching Compatibility service on Local Computer.” and below that is said “Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.”

Thank you for reading this 400 word explanation! I am really started to get frustrated. I need to print and watch some videos! Thanks again =]

I really need help!!

How do i fix my monitor so it shows my whole start menu?.see details?

When i go to the start menu and then all programs, the dropdown menu is cut off at the very bottom. It cuts off the two bottom programs, all except the very top of the folder tab.I can still click on them and use the programs but its driving me insane trying to figure out how to fix it.When i bring the pointer down to the bottom of the screen the arrow disappears off the screen, but the program options still come up,off to the side like normal.I’ve tried the buttons on the monitor and i messed around with the monitor options in the under display in the control panel but nothing works.Any ideas out there?…..Thanks!

where did my volume icon go that is supposed to be in the task bar?

OK..so, i was just deleting pics off my computer so it would run faster..then i decided to mute the sound on my computer, but when i went down to the task bar, the volume icon wasnt there any more. so i looked up some stuff on the internet about how to get it back but none of it has worked..heres what i tried: went to control panel then to sound and volume, but everything that could possibly be selected is grey and wont let you click it. then i went to control panel and task menu.. and i tried to customize it, but it says the volume is in past items that were once displayed, i tried to get it to present but it wont go…i also turned the computer off then back on but it still isnt there.. idk what to do!!!?!?

My windows task bar keeps disappearing any idea why?

The bar at the bottom of my screen keeps disappearing after every two - three hours.

I’ve read all the suggestions on the web of what it could be and none of them seem to work.

The only ways I can get it back is Restarting the Computer or going on the task-bar menu on the control panel. I can then get it back for another two hours but doing this every two hours gets a bit annoying especially when in the middle of video editing which I constantly need to switch between different programs.

Any ideas?

P.S Its not explorer.exe crashing because whenever try that it always just comes up with my documents.
I’ve tried the auto hide route. Thats how I get it back but its not on auto hide because it would disappear everytime I took my mouse away
Auto Hide is definitely NOT on
