the biggest part about being a good bartender is being a hard worker, being able to do many things at once, not getting drunk on the job, and having a think skin. ANYONE can pour drinks. It takes a special kind of person to get throttled all night behind the bar, can be as nice as the situation will allow to everyone, cut ppl off when need be no matter how much they tip, and still be sober enought to count the drawer at the end.
the best way to get started is to become a cocktail server. dealing with ppl in this regard will let you know if this bartender thing is for you.

Whatever you do don’t go to bartender’s school. Most employers don’t respect them. Anyone can mix a drink. The only thing the school will teach you is 1) drink recipes 2)Serve safe stuff 3)types of equipment.
None of that makes a bartender. You have to be born with the type of personality to be one. You should I suggest at 19 since you cannot bar tend until you are 21( I think in some states you can pour beer at 18) anyhow, get a job as a bar back, or at a bar or club as a bouncer/server etc.. and let the bartenders and your boss know your ambitions. Working there will tell you if you have what it takes and even still want to be one. Also a lot of catering companies and event venues will hire you now and then train you when you are ready. Where do you live
